Rape Crisis Centres (RCCs)
There are 17 Rape Crisis Centres around Ireland.
A Rape Crisis Centre (RCC) is a safe space for survivors of sexual violence, including rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment and childhood sexual abuse to work through trauma with specially trained counsellors and psychotherapists.
RCCs are survivor-centred in their practice; this means they work with you to meet you where you are now to understand your needs and adapt to them and ensure you have the access you need to those supports.
All centres are open to survivors regardless of sex, gender or sexuality. In addition:
- Some centres offer support for survivors aged 14 years and upwards – this varies from centre to centre.
- Counselling in other languages may be available or a translator can be arranged.
- Some centres have specialised staff who work with people who have learning disabilities.

Ongoing support services
Each centre offers different types of therapy and counselling. Counselling is a one-on-one relationship which provides the support and encouragement for someone to talk about their feelings in a safe and confidential space.
There is no fixed number of sessions for each client – each person’s process of healing is individual and you can attend the counselling for as long as you need with the counsellor assigned to work with you.
Counselling is available free to all survivors.
